My Production 6 can be found by clicking on the link! I hope you enjoy my educational journey as much as I did with remembering and recording it all down. Below are the instructions for the production.

This Production is relatively open-ended. However, the following game rules apply:

1) Select a site/community where you are currently teaching or select a site/community that is personally meaningful for you or holds some fascination/interest:

Based on our discussion and project development ‘game’ from last week, design your own unique project that involves:

2) Place-based inquiry: Explore and document the place and community ‘on-the-ground’ (e.g., modes of inquiry and data collection using apps/tools on your mobile device). Consider modes of inquiry like field notes, photographic documentation, video documentation, interviews and so on – see also sound and aroma maps ideas).

3) Digital Storytelling or a narrative research work using mapping: Tell your own story of place, community, history, culture, language and the ‘city-text’. This part is open-ended (you develop our own narrative theme or project ‘conceit’). Consider building upon ideas from class discussion or develop new themes and project strategies.

4) Position Yourself within the Map: If you are an observer of a community, you need to ensure you account for your own position, perspective, and subjectivity within the community you explore (general ethics for ethnography).

1) I couldn't decide with just one community so I went on to describe my Educational Journey from my time as an infant starting out in Brazil. Growing up as a student and eventually becoming a teacher myself. To portray the changes in communities that I went through.

2) These were all places that I was able to go to or have lived/studied in so I was very familiar with it. I also included pictures of my time at most of these places!

3) I will be discussing my experiences through my own narrative in those locations! I was fortunate enough to have experienced vastly different cultures, languages, and communities while growing up. This is something that I think has enriched me as an educator now.

4) As I discuss the communities that I am talking about I make my position, either as a student, student-teacher, or teacher, very clear to the reader as they progress through my journey.

Return to <span style="color:green">Bernardo</span>s page or the <span style="color:green">Course page</span>!

Position Yourself within the Map: If you are an observer of a community, you need to ensure you account for your own position, perspective, and subjectivity within the community you explore (general ethics for ethnography).
As I discuss the communities that I am talking about I make my position, either as a student, student-teacher, or teacher, very clear to the reader as they progress through my journey.

Hey, my name is <span style="color:red">Bernardo Cardona</span>. I was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and came to Canada about 13 years ago. I have graduated with my Bachelor of Education Degree from York University with teachable subjects in Mathematics and Physics at the Intermediate/Senior level. In addition, I graduated with a B.Sc. Honors Double Major degree in Applied Mathematics and Physics. Currently, I am working on finishing my Master of Education with a graduate diploma in Mathematics Education from York University. So, it's safe to say that I've spent a good amount of time at York University. In fact, September of this year will mark my 7th year at York.

At the moment, I am working as a High School teacher; teaching anything that relates to Mathematics, Physics, Science, and Computers. Besides working during the morning at the High school and completing my Master's courses in the afternoon, I also enjoy bouldering (rock climbing with no harness), watching shows, playing video games, and reading books.

A few days a week, you'll find me coaching Richmond Hill's lifesaving team and often times swimming myself. While I don't do the usual competitive swimming events, I do compete for lifeguard competitions that are broken down into 3 major categories: First aid rescues, Pool events, and Waterfront (beach) events. I specialize in the first aid portion which requires a team of 4 people to work together and treat victims the quickest and most accurate in a given amount of time. I also do most swimming events involving throwing ropes, carrying manikins and using fins! I have traveled all around the country for provincial, and national competitions and have gone abroad to compete internationally!

During my many years at York University, I have made friends that helped me through the many challenges that came along my journey. Some of them I met in my first year and I'm still taking courses with them now. You can find their pages here Melissa and Vima. Others I met more recently while doing my Master's programs like Amanda, Alice and Anthony.

I have had the pleasure of having Kurt Thumlert as my professor a total of three times now! In all of his courses, I am pushed to discover and learn new things that I never thought I could have learned. My first course with him was in undergrad and I learned how to make a game using RPG maker, my second course with him would come over 3 years later while working on my Masters. The first time I registered for his Master's program I had to drop out, as my schedule got too busy to handle everything I was trying to juggle, but I vowed to come back and take his course. I did the following year and I was able to use Twine to make another game—a Murder Mystery this time! I am very excited to see what I will learn and produce in this course!
<span style="color:green">Bernardo's Production Response #1</span> involves using the Brayboy & Maughan (2009) and Mitchell, et al (2016) texts, to write a critical essay/reflection that addresses key ideas in the readings and some of the questions provided by Kurt.

Production Response #2
<span style="color:green">Bernardo's Production Response #2</span> requires us to look at different <span style="color:green"> Technologies over time</span> and see how they are used in education and the transformations that came about its invention. I am looking at the <span style="color:green">Printing Press</span> for this production!

Production Response #3
Using our earlier DAAGU article and ‘complexity pedagogy’ as a roadmap, the aim of this week’s production is to launch our discussion forum and explore this week’s readings and video:

The discussion forum can be found <span style="color:green"> here ! </span>

Production Response #4
<span style="color:green">Bernardo's Production Response #4</span>, this production gave me another opportunity to engage in video making on my own! Come check out The Adventures of Bonnie & Clyde!

Proposal for Final Project
<span style="color:green">Bernardo's Proposal</span> for the Final technology adventure project!

Production Response #5
Using the tool ComicLife I will be creating a comic for <span style="color:green">Bernardo's Production Response #5</span>. I have chosen option #2 which is to create an L2/Culture Serious Comic: If your first language is not English, this is an opportunity for you to mobilize your L1 (language/cultural-capital) as a semiotic and cultural resource.

Production Response #6
For <span style="color:green">Bernardo's Production Response #6</span>, I will be remixing ideas mentioned by Professor Kurt with my own ideas, as well as coming up with my own narrative approach that integrates place-based modes of inquiry with digital storytelling, memoir, and exploration of related personal/community narratives. I will be integrating curated images and historical documents in your map (along with original photos and multimodal artifacts). Time to go forth and explore!

StoryMap allows integration of text, images, videos (Youtube) and audio (Soundcloud) and possibly more!

Production Response #7 & 8
As our course is a blended course and connected with BHER students in Dadaab we continue using the forum like in previous productions to discuss, share and converse about our ideas! These discussions are based on our mutual readings but evolve and develop in different ways.

All of our discussions can be found in the Main Forum

The two productions have been combined due to some changes in our course. The changes come about due to the COVID - 19 pandemic that is historically changing our world. Stay safe, healthy and wash your hands everyone!

I have chosen option #2 which is to create an L2/Culture Serious Comic: If your first language is not English, this is an opportunity for you to mobilize your L1 (language/cultural-capital) as a semiotic and cultural resource.

Option #2 is to create an L2/Culture Serious Comic: If your first language is not English, this is an opportunity for you to mobilize your L1 (language/cultural-capital) as a semiotic and cultural resource.

Create an L2 dual-language (both languages appear together, somewhat like a polyglot text, though in graphic narrative form) comic that integrates L1 and L2 (w/ English in translation) and that tells a story about language, culture, diversity, place, identity, etc. (also explored in an article by Lotherington & Jenson). You may explore your own experiences, stories, conflicts, and histories navigating language, identity, and culture).

A short meta-reflection that examines what and how I learned through the process, use of ideation deck and how the experience articulated any ideas from the readings/course themes

The link to the video can be found on this link! The Adventures of Bonnie & Clyde!.

I have attached the cards that I used for movie production and below are the explanations for the cards that I used!

For the Genre cards, when doing the in-class activity, I enjoyed the 60 seconds short as it made it a fun challenge to tell a fun story in a quick fashion. From some of the Theme cards that I pulled out, I was interested in doing a black and white movie. Professor Thumlert's advice to me while I was struggling to think of movie ideas, was to get weird! I decided to use my two turtles, Bonnie and Clyde, to do a Film noir movie as it fit the genre of the two criminals that they were named after. As I was already doing a black and white film and my turtles cannot talk, a silent movie fit the movie perfectly to pull everything together.

The Theme cards used were what inspired and helped me choose a genre, I found two pictures that were both black and white. The first was of someone running (away?) up a staircase, and the second was a homemade and old picture. Those two gave me the idea of crime and a black and white movie. The other theme cards were the moral dilemma that comes from taking money from the rich to help with the poor. I used flashbacks to help tell the story and enable me to start the story in the middle. The actors, the turtles, did not have much acting experience, it was then very important to focus on small movements to tell a story.

The Technique cards were important to enhance the story. I added sound effects to help with the setting. As the movie was short a fast edit helped keep the pace going to get a 'story' in 60 seconds. Other effects were used in the film to add humor, feeling or transitions between the scenes.

Overall, the idea and use of an ideation deck is an extremely helpful tool for any classroom activity where students might find themselves stuck in starting on a creative project. It gave me the ability to not have to worry about some of the smaller or bigger details and just get going with some ideas. It also worked in a different way where some cards might give me a spark and I can then take the project wherever I wanted. This was evident with my creation of some cards that were not part of the original ideation deck like Film Noir or Silent Movie. This is a simple technology that can be used for many other activities to help enhance, modify or challenge the learner. It can be used as a restriction or a helpful tool.

For this production, the class had another opportunity to engage with video making! Using the card decks (Genres / Methods & Themes, Technique Cards). Using the same basic set of game rules (image attached), the card deck was used to create my own short video work.

A short meta-reflection that examines what and how I learned through the process, use of ideation deck and how the experience articulated any ideas from the readings/course themes

The link to the video can be found <span style="color:green">here.</span>
