 The evolution of the internet and technology in general has allowed for many online programs, such as Wikipedia, to revolutionize the way that people learn and obtain information. The simple aspect of availability has made Wikipedia into the important resource millions (possibly over 1 Billion) have used. Teaching has effectively been made easier with Wikipedia as a resource for teachers to learn about a subject that they did not entirely know about without having to go out an purchase hundreds of dollars’ worth of printed encyclopedias. Wikipedia has also adapted to the general theme of inclusion for a variety of learners that can benefit from reading, or listening to, simpler text. Wikipedia allows users to type “simple.” in the URL before the rest of the URL in order to be presented with a simpler version of the text with more concise information and less detail. One downfall of Wikipedia in schools is that it can often be noticed that students will neglect to conduct proper research, or provide suitable citations, due to receiving all of their knowledge from the online encyclopedia source. Overall, Wikipedia has changed learning and teaching in a positive light. Information regarding any subject is readily available to be accessed, which in of itself can boost reading comprehension skills as well!
